Why martial arts?
If you have ever started a workout program, only to slow down, then stop after a while, martial arts may be different for you.
Exercise is important for body and mind, but who wants to force themselves to do another "supposed to" in life? Like alot of people, I have started and stopped lots of exercise programs in the past.
That's why I like to take the "supposed to" and "should" out of fitness by doing things that bring me something more.
I enjoy the benefits of flexible and strong muscles, but I train because I want to know a new technique or I want to learn a new form. I like the satisfaction of doing a nice jump kick and kicking a bag and knowing that if it were not for martial arts I would not still be able to move my body this way.
Many people begin martial arts training to learn self-defense. That's one of the reasons I began. Any reason is a good reason to begin, but you'll find many reasons to continue.
You will enjoy making progress that is noticeable. At the end of each class there is time to look back and appreciate an improvement or something new learned.
I like to stress the importance of focusing on learning great skills, rather than on earning belts, but after months of training and practicing it is very rewarding to have a new belt tied around your waist.
Some of the benefits are: stronger muscles and greater flexibility, improved balance and coordination, self-defense.
The rewards are many and depend on how you approach your training.
There is no reason not to try. The first two classes are free with no obligation.
